MILD procedure by Vertos Medical

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a condition in which the lower spinal canal narrows and compresses the nerves in the lower back. People with LSS typically experience a variety of symptoms that affect daily life, including pain and limited mobility.

mild® is an early treatment option to consider when conservative therapies (e.g., physical therapy, pain medication, chiropractic) are not providing adequate relief.

MILD procedure Q & A

MILD procedure

What is MILD procedure by Vertos Medical?

The procedure addresses a major root cause of LSS by removing excess ligament tissue to restore space in the spinal canal. The procedure typically takes less than an hour and can be performed through a single, tiny incision smaller than the size of a baby
aspirin (5.1 mm).

How does it work?

Excess ligament causes pressure on the nerves in the lower back. Similar to “removing a kink in a drinking straw,” mild® reduces the compression to restore mobility and relieve pain.

Unlike some major surgeries, mild® doesn’t eliminate future treatment options because no major structural anatomy of the spine is altered.

MILD procedure

How is the procedure performed?

The mild® Procedure is designed to get you in and out and on your way. mild® does not require general anesthesia, implants, stitches, steroids, or opioids. The procedure can be performed using local anesthetic and light sedation - leaving no implants behind, only a Band-Aid.

Patients are typically done with their procedure in about (1) hour and often less. You are expected to arrive (15) minutes early to check-in and complete paperwork.

You will then transfer to Pre-OP where we will double check your chart and prepare for the procedure. The Physician will briefly review with you prior to the procedure. We then perform the mild® procedure and take you back to the recovery room. Recovery can be as short as 5 minutes if you just used local anesthesia.

What happens after procedure?

After your procedure, you will return home and rest for the remainder of the day. Benefits from the procedure are usually detectable within the first few hours, although maximal improvements take up to 6 weeks.

Patients typically resume normal activity within 24 hours with some restrictions. Discuss with your pain management provider for any further restrictions to safely recover.
